William Shatner turns 80-years-old today (22nd March 2011) which means 'International Talk Like William Shatner Day' is officially underway.
William Shatner, the Canadian actor best known for playing Captain James T. Kirk in the original Star Trek series, is celebrating his 80th birthday today, reports CBS News.
The actor's birthday is also the date of 'International Talk Like William Shatner Day', which was created by Doug Van Horn and the voiceover actor Maurice Lamarche. The pair's ambition is for everyone to begin talking like Shatner on his birthday, which means individuals should add strange pauses to their sentences, as well as sudden bursts of anger and rising and falling inflections. Van Horn created a Facebook page for the 'official day' and LaMarche posted a YouTube video explaining the rules of regulations of International Talk Like William Shatner Day. CBS News writer DAVID RIEDEL suggests reciting the following piece of Captain Kirk dialogue to best enjoy the celebratory day, "Damn it, Bones, you're a doctor. You know that pain and guilt can't be taken away with the wave of a magic wand. They're the things we carry with us, the things that make us who we are. If we lose them, we lose ourselves. I don't want my pain taken away! I need my pain!".
Although Captain Kirk was played by Chris Pine in the acclaimed 2009 Star Trek movie, William Shatner recently spoke of his desire to appear in the forthcoming sequel, which will star Simon Pegg and ZOE SALDANA.
